The Environmental Analysis and Management research group, AGA from its catalan name Anàlisi i Gestió Ambiental, aims to work on technological and environmental aspects of sustainable development, providing solutions for improving the environmental quality of products, processes and industrial activities. It satisfies technological necessities of different productive sectors and public administration by the development and transfer of knowledge in leading aspects of environmental engineering and management. The group is located in the Department of Chemical Engineering of the Rovira i Virgili University.

The AGA group has highly qualified technical and research personnel with a broad experience in the study, development and implementation of all the offered services.

The group counts with adequate equipment and infrastructure for the best development of its projects: equipped laboratories, the best available simulation software packages, databases, etc. The research, development, innovation, and knowledge and technology transfer carried out in the AGA group follow internal quality guidelines based on the requirements of the ISO standard 9001:2008. Maximum professionalism and confidentiality is ensured. AGA is awarded as a consolidated research Group by the Catalan Agency for Management of University and Research Grants (AGAUR) through the grants 2005-SGR-075, 2009-SGR-230 and 2014-SGR-1520, 2017 SGR 1409.

The AGA group has demonstrated its experience through more than 50 contracts with companies of different sectors, such as chemical, automobile, electronic and electric, and different public administrations, such as waste water treatment and management, municipal solid residues management, etc. at local, national or international level.

AGA is member of the Catalan Network for Life Cycle Assessment.

With the aim of transferring and exchanging knowledge between academia and the business world, AGA is connected to TecnATox technology transfer center:

Prof. Marta Schuhmacher and Prof. Castells have participated in the recently released book “Life cycle approaches to sustainable regional development” edited by Stefania Massari, Guido Sonnemann and Fritz Balkau. The book is about sustainability, or more precisely, it is about how to move towards sustainability through the use of life cycle methodologies.

Between February 2013 and January 2017, TecnATox has been involved in the ECsafeSEAFOOD project, entitled Priority environmental contaminants in seafood: safety assessment, impact and public perception ?. It was a joint joint initiative of 18 partners from 10 EU contries, funded by the 7th Framework Program.

One of the most important outcomes of the project has been the development of FISHCHOICE, a new online tool focused on minimizing the intake of chemical pollutants and maximizing the intake of nutrients, through the consumption of fish and shellfish.

FISHCHOICE is freely available at .

One of the core objectives of TecnATox is the applicability of its research, being this a clear example. While this kind of software may have a great interest for the consumers, it is also of help for stakeholders and policy makers, as well as scientists. Actually, FISHCHOICE has been also disseminated to scientific audiences through the publication of a new article, recently indexed in PubMed.

Apart from its scientific dissemination, FishChoice had also a notable impact on the press, including a specific piece of news at TV3 Catalan television channel.

Untargeted metabolomics to assess in vitro toxicity of two fractions of fine particulate matter (PM2.5-0.25 and PM0.25) at environmental levels on A549 lung carcinoma cells.

Involvement in the partnership of INTERWASTE. Synergising International Research Studies into the Environmental Fate and Behaviour of Toxic Organic Chemicals in the Waste Stream ( INTERWASTE ) is the title of a new Marie Sklodowska-Curie Research and Innovation Staff Exchange Project?, which was started in January 2017. This is a collaborative initiative led by University of Birmingham and 26 more research centres from Europe, Africa, Asia, Australasia, North and South America. We are one of the partners of this program, which will be focused on developing scientific understanding of issues related to environmental contamination with toxic and/or hazardous organic chemicals (specifically flame retardants (FRs) and pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs)) arising from their presence in the waste stream. ?

In January 23, IISPV began a new series of seminars, which will take place every 3 months. In the first seminar, Dr. Joan Sabaté , Executive Director of the Center for Nutrition, Lifestyle & Disease Prevention, School of Public Health?, Loma Linda University (CA, US), was invited to give a plenary lecture on "Nutritional paradigm shifts". In addition to this lecture, several IISPV researchers were also invited to give a short presentation. One of them was Francisco Sánchez-Soberón , who carried out a short conference entitled "Toxicity assessment of environmental particulate matter: current tools and future challenges?".

Dr. Jaume Folch will partcipate in "Ciència a La Cantonada": cicle de tertúlies científiques presenting "Patim del que mengem?". Date: 08/11/2016. More information:
